Tracheostomy Care

A tracheostomy is surgery to create a hole in neck that goes into your windpipe. After the hole is made, a plastic tube is placed in the hole to keep it open. We will help you to take self care practices, changing bandage, clean the hole with a cotton swab or a cotton ball at least once a day to prevent infection.

Change the strips that keep your tube set up assuming they get grimy. Ensure you hold the tube set up when you change the lace. Be certain you can fit 2 fingers under the lace to ensure it isn’t excessively close.
